The Government of Sant Josep has announced a reduction of the concessions for sun beds and jet skis on all the beaches in its municipality. In total there will be around 600 less lounges than there were last summer. The town seeks to meet the standard that only 10% of the sand can be covered, so on some beaches, such as Cala Bassa, Cala Carbó and es Xarco, this means that more than half of the sun beds will be eliminated. The concessions for motor craft on all non-urban beaches have also been reduced, which will affect Cala Bassa, Cala d’Hort and Mitjorn (ses Salines). Thanks to the removal of these craft, and also of some pedal boats, the zones marked for swimming will be increased in some places.
These measures taken by Sant Josep are based on the conclusions of a study carried out by the City Council over the past two seasons. The study focused on the criteria of environmental sustainability and preservation of the public’s interest. Sant Josep realizes that its beaches are a precious and sensitive natural treasure that requires management in line with the needs of citizens and the conservation of the environment.
