Diamonds can come in all the colours of the rainbow: white, yellow, red, green, orange, blue, purple, black etc., but the majority are colourless, very light yellow, brown or grey. Diamonds with very vivid colours are the rarest and therefore the most valuable and are considered miracles of nature. Only 0.01% of all diamonds fit into this category. Fancy coloured diamonds owe their colour to atoms other than carbon present in their structure, like nitrogen, which is yellow, and boron, which is blue. These atoms are dispersed in the carbon’s chemical structure altering its colour. The price of these diamonds doesn’t follow the world index but rather each diamond is valued based on its properties and its rarity. These diamonds are classified in the following way:
Faint. Very light. Light. Fancy. Fancy intense. Fancy vivid. Fancy dark. Fancy deep.
